The Oban distillery was built in 1794 located in the middle of a busy town, overlooking the harbour. In fact the town grew around the distillery in the past 200 years leaving not much space to expand. In 1989 a new visitors' centre was installed. Oban distillery is owned by Diageo. It is Diageo's second smallest distillery, right after Royal Lochnagar.
